Baking Shows + Life in Your 20's
There's a reason we don't fast-forward baking shows to the end.
Is anyone else a big baking show fan? Cupcake Wars, Great British Baking Show, Kids Baking Championship? You name it, I'm there.
Something about watching contestants start from scratch is so entertaining for us. We love the process, even if it’s not always perfect. Let’s face it, someone is always forgetting an ingredient, burning the sugar, dropping the cake, and starting from scratch with little time left, and frankly, that's the best part. The bulk of the show is actually not even the cake, it's the process of making it.
Come to think of it, baking shows and life in your 20's have a lot in common.
We are in the thick of the episode. We're starting from scratch, figuring it out as we go, making mistakes, and starting over. Let's not forget about the plot twists that come halfway through the show at the most inconvenient time just when you think you have it all together.
Seeing the similarities here?
If you, fellow 20 something, are feeling confused, directionless, or struggling with not yet being able to see the finished product (aka the house, the job, the next step) take heart in knowing that the process is often the best part. Not only going through it but sharing it with other people. It's what makes life worth living.
No one wants to just look at a finished cupcake, but EVERYONE wants to know how to make one.
I can’t speak from experience quite yet, but I think one day we’ll hold our cake and think, “wow, this is cool but it was the journey that made this moment so exciting.”
