Christmas is Hard
It’s Christmas which means parties, lights, cookies, family and so so much more. But it also means hardship. Yes, hardship. Not necessarily for myself, but I know there are a lot of people in a lot of places feeling a lot of hard things.
Divorce, break-ups, loss of loved ones. The list goes on forever. It’s a joyous time, but man can it be a devastating time too. Recently, Jesus has been teaching me a lot about what it means to be there for people. I’m not the best at it, but I’m learning.
I recently read that the word compassion literally means “to suffer with.” I couldn’t get passed that line in my book. Most of the time I feel like I’m being a good friend, and maybe you do too. But let’s not forget that being compassionate is much more than saying I’m sorry, buying a gift or having a girls night out to try and numb the pain. To have compassion is to suffer with someone. It takes heart and strength, but how else can we love well if we don’t first understand. Jesus did it for us, let’s make strides in doing it for others :)
