Goals: GIVE
New Year's Resolutions were never really my thing. I was tired of the endless cycle of setting big resolutions or deciding to live a new life style and slowly seeing it fade by mid March. So instead I have decided to share with you some goals in process and new goals one excerpt at a time. | part three
GIVE
One of the greatest realizations I have made transitioning into adulthood is the joy in giving.
I remember how exhilarating it was to rip wrapping paper open on December 25th used to be, but this year it was a bit different. I’d like to say in 2018 I will buy anything that reminds me of someone and give it to them, but financially, that is not happening.
It’s funny how we are so quick to claim ownership over our material possessions like they will be ours forever. We have a years worth of clothes hanging in our closets and most of us probably only wear less than half of them. We hoard items like we would be doomed without them, when in reality we aren’t leaving this world with nothing.
I remember overhearing this conversation at my *home church once
“Oh my goodness, I love your necklace!”
“Thank you, it’s yours now”
Without hesitation the woman unhooked her necklace and just like that, she gave.
I want to be more like that this year. I want live like I’m dying. Not in the sense that I will go on thrilling adventures, but that I will be more aware of what holds meaning in my life. I will be content and comfortable with living on less.I challenge you too. Give a little and I promise on the inside, you’ll get a little too.
* Northbend Church is filled with these people and that’s what makes it home.
