A Rant on Realness

A Rant on Realness

HEY FRIENDS

If you have read any of my blog or instagram posts you know that’s how they usually start out. Why? Not because it sounds good, but because it is truly my desire for you to feel like my friends, even if we don’t technically meet all the friendship requirements (do those actually exist?)

I have learned a very important part of Leadership and being a part of any group, is being REAL. Not being harsh and negative because that’s your “personality” but being genuine with others. It’s so easy to live life swayed. I did it, and I think we all do at some point. It comes naturally to act a certain way with this group of friends than that group, or act different with your coworkers than your boss.

It seems as if a lot of us think being a leader is about not showing weakness and  commanding authority. However, I have felt more respected and included by leaders who are honest about their struggles and consistent in their character.

Of course we all have highs and lows, but embracing and acting upon your true self 24 hours a day despite your company will actually change the way others talk about you. Most of the time, drama is created from a lack of consistency. One person sees one side of you and the other sees a whole different side.

It is possible to be respected and be relatable. It is possible to be the same person in front of your friends as you are your boss. Take your responsibilities seriously, but don’t always take yourself extremely seriously. People will become interested when you share your real life and not the posed picture everyone else is doing. Be yourself, it’s a lot less complicated :)
