Abraham's Obedience
I’ve been sitting on this story for a few days. Still unpacking the lessons. Take a few minutes to break it down with me? ⤵️

Abraham waited a long time to have a son. When he finally did, God told him to take his son to the mountain and give him up as a sacrifice to God. Long story short, God provided a ram in place of Abraham’s son as the result of Abraham’s obedience. Real close call God, too close for MY comfort.

What struck me this morning though was Abraham’s brave and blind obedience. He didn’t hesitate to take his son on the journey up the mountain. He had seen God’s faithfulness enough in the past to know that his obedience to God was more important than the blessing he already had.

Then I think about us. We don’t act in obedience because we’d rather be comfortable than courageous in what we do have than to have the boldness to walk into what we don’t see yet. We trust the seen more than we do the unseen. When we do that, we take ownership of our lives instead of practicing stewardship. God’s the owner, we’re the stewards. We can’t get it twisted.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you feel led to lay something down at God’s feet or walk into what seems like blind obedience, just remember you were never an owner of it. I don’t think taking Isaac to the mountain as a sacrifice was easy for Abraham, but God never told us obedience to him was going to be easy. As followers of Christ it is part of our job to give God what belongs to God and trust that he is working all things for our good.
