Finding Security (through the insecurities)

Finding Security (through the insecurities)

Buckle in, sister. I am so passionate about you knowing that the imperfections you saw in the mirror this morning do not define who you are. I wish I was standing beside you so I could look you in the eye when I tell you what I’m about to say. I believe in you and I want you to succeed. I want you to be set free from the harsh reality you’re trapped in because i really do love you and I’m walking through some of the same fires you are.

The dreaded question we are all asked at some point in our lives, “If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?”

I can tell you mine and it is the same answer over and over again - my love handles, side pudge, extra tummy weight! I have always carried most of my weight in my stomach and for a long time I labeled that part of myself an imperfection or a problem area. This led me to despise bathing suit season (high waisted until I DIE). I still feel most insecure in a bathing suit and will  wrap a towel around me within 5 seconds of getting out of the water.

So, what’s your “insecurity”? What have you labled is “wrong” with your body? What’s that one thing you would change?

Anytime I replied to this question with the answer I told you, most people didn’t seem to ever notice what I thought was the loudest part on my body. Usually they said, “really? I would have never guessed that!” How could they not notice? (maybe they were just trying to save my fragile feelings LOL). But, I realized the imperfections we see aren’t seen as clearly by those around us. We examine ourselves head to toe every single day when we look in the mirror. We are critical. We are mean. We almost become so wrapped up in self just by where we place our focus. We are harder on ourselves than we are anyone around us.

I think the first step in overcoming these “imperfections” on our bodies is to stop labeling them as imperfections. You’ve told yourself for so long that you have a big nose, a long torso, an awful smile and now that’s all you hear. It’s an echo that gets louder and louder the more you try to hide it. Your mind is now trained to hate that part of who you are. Girl, we must retrain our minds to appreciate the parts we have mislabeled for so long.

I’m going to let you in on a secret... Odds are people never walk passed me saying, “wow, look at that girls side fat.” And I can almost tell you for certain people don’t walk by you and say, “wow look at that girls (insert insecurity).”

So how do we combat insecurity? How do we retrain our minds to find contentment in what we have labeled imperfect?

Seeking Security.

Finding security in knowing that God hand crafted you. We are human, so our vision is flawed and we will never be able to see ourselves as perfect. Security is found in knowing that who you are is just who you were intended to be and there is no need for you to reach perfection. Perfection is an absolute myth. There is no possible way you could reach it if you tried. Moreover, you will never be that girl who’s instagram profile you keep stalking because you were never meant to be her!! You were both designed differently from gifts to passions to lifestyle and everything in between. If you keep chasing a look or a life that wasn’t meant to be yours you will miss out on the opportunity that God is calling you into.

Start retraining your mind this week by combating all the lies that have been piling up for too long.

You are you, and that my friend is your power. Embrace it. Love it. Find confidence in it.
